Millennium Development Goals

In the year 2000 at the United Nations Millennium Summit, all of the member nations of the United Nations pledged to achieve eight specific goals for the world by the year 2015. These eight goals grew out of existing commitments and initiatives of the United Nations. More specifically the 192 countries of the United Nations committed themselves by 2015 to:

MDG Cross

1) eradicate extreme poverty and hunger;

2) achieve universal primary education;

3) promote gender equality and empower women;

4) reduce child mortality;

5) improve maternal health;

6) reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases;

7) ensure environmental sustainability;

8) and develop a global partnership for development.

The Episcopal Diocese of Alabama has joined the Episcopal Church in supporting and working toward achievement of these goals.
